I know that bettas are territorial to one another but do they actually flare at people too?! My last betta was very sweet and would come up to me and chill where I was sitting, but this one will speed up to the front of the tank and FLARE at me whenever I come close to the tank to look at him or feed him. Is this saying GET OUT or is he excited to see me?? In other words is my new betta's personality friendly or mean..
betta fish are likemy excite tigers. they are territorial and love to fight. Mean? I suppose. btw I name my beta fish tyson
He's doing it to warn you off as he is obviously a bit wary of you. With them being territorial he's just wanting to protect his home. I'm sure once he gets used to you he will be fine :)
Betta fish are actually quite odd fishes. Different betta have different personality, some are quite peaceful but some are extremely aggressive. I have a bettamy excite which co-exist with danios(I know danios can be nippy, but mine isn't) and another betta that will try to kill any tank mates I put in, like my platy. It flares at you because he think that you're a predator, and it's trying to warn you off. I wouldn't say your betta is mean, but it's just trying to defend it's territory, your betta thinks that you're an intruder to his territory.
